About the Gaylord Wolfpack

The Gaylord Sports Association Wolfpack is the only sled hockey team in Connecticut for individuals with a physical disability. The team was started in 2003 and has become a competitive sled hockey team and a member of the Northeast Sled Hockey League (NESHL). The team had a fantastic season last year, competing in the top tier division of the NESHL and making it to the final championship game! They earned a 2nd place finish against some of the top teams in the northeast! They also attended the USA Hockey Sled Hockey National Championships in West Chester, PA, placing 3rd in their division in a higher tier than last season.

Sled Hockey is a sit-down version of hockey, played by individuals whose disability prevents them from playing stand-up hockey. Members of the team include individuals who have a mobility impairment from diagnoses such as spinal cord injury, amputation, spina bifida, multiple sclerosis and other neurological conditions. Players use their arms to power themselves on the ice with specially designed sleds, and most of the standard rules of hockey apply. Able-bodied players are also encouraged to play!

The team is run by a group of dedicated volunteers and relies on fundraising, grants and donations to be successful and keep players costs to a minimum. Team expenses include league dues, tournament travel, ice time and specialty equipment. The team is currently fundraising for their participation in this year's USA Hockey Sled National Championship May 1-4, 2025 at the Florida Panthers IceDen in Coral Springs, Florida.
