Indoor Kayak Class
Indoor Kayak Class
This class will include instruction on the basics of kayaking including paddling skills, standard and adaptive kayak equipment, safety procedures and how to adapt or modify for individual needs. The class begins with instruction on land, followed by on water practice in the pool.
*There are essential eligibility requirements to participate in this class.* Once completed, the participant will be able to kayak at summer kayak outings.

Archery Clinic
Archery clinics are designed for individuals to learn about and participate in the sport of archery. Participants will receive instruction from a Level IV Certified USA Archery Coach as well as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to give the best possible instruction and support independence. We welcome first-timers, beginners and advanced archers. Instruction will be tailored based on your ability. Standard and adaptive equipment are provided. Pre-registration is required. Adaptive Pickleball Open Play Sessions are a great opportunity to learn and practice the sport of pickleball in a fun and supportive environment! This paddle sport is easy to learn and can be enjoyed by all ability and skill levels, which includes playing from a standing or seated position. The open play sessions will provide a chance to learn game rules, basic skills, and game play. Instruction will be provided by Denise Heinig and local pickleball experts. Golf Clinic
The adaptive golf clinic provides an opportunity to try the sport or to return to playing golf. Instruction is provided by a trained PGA professional, Certified Recreation Therapists and volunteers who will help you to maximize your independence and improve your skills. The clinic is set-up in several stations including a driving station and putting station. Beginners and returning golfers are welcome and all equipment is provided, including adaptive golf cart if needed. Pre-registration is required. Whether it’s your first time riding, or you have been riding for years, we welcome you to join our cycle rides! The program offers group rides on the linear trail and are designed for
adult cyclists of all abilities who have a physical disability or visual impairment. All riding is on a closed trail, free from traffic! Cycle rides are meant to be enjoyable for riders of all abilities, so each ride may break into several groups based on ability, speed & distance desired. All cyclists must preregister and reserve a bike for each ride by calling the Sports Association at 203-284-2772.
Waterski Clinic
Adaptive water ski clinics offer participants the opportunity to try, learn, and progress in this fast and exciting water sport. Our goal is for participants to experience water skiing in a fun, safe and supportive environment. The clinic includes adaptive equipment, instruction and lunch. Instruction is provided by USA Water Ski Certified instructors, recreation therapists and expert water skiers. We welcome both new and experienced skiers to enjoy a day of skiing on Pachaug Pond. EX4L
Exercise For Life (EX4L)
EXCEL in functional fitness through strength, endurance, power and flexibility. Exercise for Life (EX4L) is a strength and conditioning program for individuals ages 16 and up with a physical disability. The class provides an opportunity to work on building strength, endurance and flexibility in a group setting. The class is run by an exercise specialist under the supervision of a physical therapist and is located at Gaylord Physical Therapy in Cheshire. This is an excellent opportunity for participants to learn or build upon fitness skills and become more comfortable working out in a gym setting. Modifications will be made for each individual to promote independence and success. Participants may register for one class series at a time. There is no fee to attend this class. Ken Murphy Memorial Open Golf Tournament
The Gaylord Hospital Sports Association invites you to the Ken Murphy Memorial Open, the only golf tournament in CT
specifically for individuals with a physical disability or visual impairment. Join us for this nine-hole tournament at the Farms Country Club. Eligible golfers include individuals who can golf independently for nine-holes at a reasonable rate of play. Prizes will be awarded during the luncheon for the top three twosomes, closest to the pin and longest drive. The Farms Country Club requires golfers to wear collared shirts; jeans are not allowed.
This tournament utilizes a 2-person scramble format. To be eligible for awards, players will be paired with another golfer who has a physical disability or visual impairment.
Each player hits a tee shot on each hole, and then each golfer plays from the spot of the best shot until you hole out. Golfers may park as close to the green as needed, but
may not park on the apron. Single rider adaptive golf carts are allowed on the
green. If the ball is on the green, but the golfer cannot get to it, add two strokes to
hole out. We ask golfers to maintain a reasonable rate of play.

Veterans Fishing Tournament
The Veterans Fishing Tournaments are open water bass tournaments for veterans or service members with a permanent physical disability, visual impairment or PTSD. Each veteran will be paired with an experienced angler and boat captain for a day on the water. The tournament includes all fishing equipment, a weigh-in and an awards luncheon. Prizes are awarded for the top 3 weights.
This event is organized in collaboration with the Major Steven “Roy” Andrews Fishing Outreach Program and CT Bass Nation.
This program is funded in part by a grant from the United States Department of Veteran Affairs in partnership with Move United Warfighter Sports Program and is offered at NO COST for veterans.

Gaylord Bullseye Classic Archery Tournament
Join us for the Gaylord Bullseye Classic Archery Tournament!
This fun competition will be based on USA Archery Para Competition rules. There will be a 30 arrow individual scoring round at 18m. To be eligible to compete, athletes must have a physical disability or visual impairment, be able to shoot independently (seated or standing), and have attended a Sports Association Archery Clinic in the past year or be able to show that they can shoot independently.
There is a $15.00 tournament fee. A boxed lunch will be available.
